About Me
Juliana DeBellis, originally from Carlsbad, California, is currently dancing with the Minnesota Ballet. Previously, she attended Texas Christian University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Ballet, a minor in Arts Leadership and Entrepreneurship, and Departmental Honors from the John V. Roach Honors College.
She grew up dancing at San Elijo Dance and Music Academy under Benjamin and Lauri-Michelle Houk where she trained primarily in ballet, modern and contemporary. During that time, Juliana also attended intensives at Kansas City Ballet, Princeton Ballet, and Ballet Austin.
At TCU’s School for Classical and Contemporary Dance, Juliana enjoyed performing in several classical and contemporary pieces including, but not limited to August Bournonville’s "Konservatoriat," Gabrielle Lamb's "Waveform," Francesca Harper’s "Angela, Gloria, and Io", and Elizabeth Gillaspy’s "Études and Impressions". With the Minnesota Ballet, she has gone on to perform in Bruce Wells' "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Karl von Rabenau's "The Nutcracker: A Duluth Tale," "POE," "Sleeping Beauty," Jennifer Miller's "From Here," and "Bach Tanz"
As an emerging screen-dance director, Juliana has already created several short films, one of which earned her the distinction of being a 2021 TCU Horned Frog Spotlight Scholar. She was a Dean's Scholarship recipient and maintained a place on the Dean’s List for the duration of her studies. As a member of the John V. Roach Honors College, Juliana achieved Lower Division Honors as well as Departmental Honors for her thesis project, a short film titled "Shadows in the Shape of Swan Lake".
Juliana is passionate about how arts organizations can engage with their communities and is proud of her involvement in the film adaptation of the choreodrama "The Sh’ma Project: Movement Against Hate". This educational dance film aims to help students "develop their own thoughtful choices and responses to hate-based speech and actions that lead to atrocity". Under the project's director and choreographer, Dr. Suki John, Juliana worked in development, marketing, and project management. She was also honored to join the team as a co-editor of the final film.
